I need to create new sharepoint site on our domain.
When I look at the SharePoint site I don't see any site but we do have over 100 sites which are being used.
I have looked at some existing site but it looks like they are groups not site.
My question is what is best thing to do in sharepoint.
Create sites or create groups
In your sharepint dashboard, change the filter from classic sites to all sites
Hi Lalajee, In SharePoint, you can create two different types of sites in the modern experience - communication sites and team sites. Each type of site has its own set of templates that contain pre-populated content, pages, and web parts that can be customized to fit the needs of your organization.
To respond your question, if you need to communicate info to users use comms sites, for collaboration and communication facilitation use team sites (Provisioning new MS Teams).
The groups that you see in the M365 admin centre are connected to SharePoint sites and are used to manage access to the group resources.

Hi @lalajee ,
Totally agree with @Mani , you can choose communication sites or team sites based on your needs. Additionally, if Microsoft 365 Groups is enabled, when you create a team site, a Microsoft 365 Group is automatically created. Any users you add to your team site are automatically added to your Microsoft 365 Group. Similarly, when you create a Microsoft 365 Group in Outlook, a SharePoint in Microsoft 365 team site is automatically created and any users you add to your Microsoft 365 Group get added to the team site.

To see all the SharePoint sites in your tenant, all you need to do is changing the list view, navigate to the Active sites page of the SharePoint admin centre, on top right corner change from current view "Classic sites" to "All sites":
The site image that you've shared is a SharePoint team site
The Active sites page of the SharePoint admin centre lets you view the SharePoint sites in your organization, including communication sites, channel sites, and sites that belong to Microsoft 365 groups. It also lets you sort and filter sites, search for a site, and create new sites.
