I use sharepoint to store/manage Adobe InDesign files. Access via OneDrive Link/Synchro to Windows Explorer works just fine - double-click file, it opens in InDesign.
But there is one catch: If I set the library settings so that a check-out is required to edit a file, then the whole folder (in Win File Explorer) gets blocked, it's not possible to create any files in there. Bit of a bummer, as InDesign (and other Adobe software) wants to create a lock-file (.IDLK file). As that's not possible, the file will only open write-protected.
A quick test has shown that if I remove the requirement to check out a file to be able to edit it, everything works just fine. But doing so kind of beats the purpose of the check-out/check-in procedure. Particularly as any change to the file will result in a minor revision - to get a major (published) revision, I have to do the check-out/check-in manually.
On a side note, even with the setting of "check-out required" it's possible to create new (MS Office-)documents in Sharepoint.
So, is there any solution to set the write-protection for the linked/synchronized files on the file itself, instead of on the folder level (so e.g. InDesign can create the lock-files)?
Or any other solution that doesn't defy the whole purpose of the check-out/check-in procedure...
