Do you mean the "Track Changes" works slowly if you modify the word.
If so, to narrow down this issue, I need more details.

Which version of Office do you have?

Does this document is a shared file, and does this issue occur with all Word documents?

Where does this document is stored?
Such as OneDrive, or local shared folder.

Does Word hang when you edit content?

Track Changes adds complexity to a Word document, which is why it may respond more slowly.

Is this a large document? Could you give us a sample?
