How to move a domain to a different tenant

I currently have two tenants in Azure and O365:

I would now like to move the second tenant domain to the first one:

There is no data in tenant 2 so deleting the subscription is fine with me. But from what I've seen deleting it does not automatically clear up the domain. What are the steps to get the domain moved from tenant 2 to tenant 1?

Basically, this task will be divided into four major steps –

1 – Migrate Office 365 domain data to another tenant

2 – Detach domain from the old tenant

3 – Attach domain in the new tenant

4 – Migrate data from the same Office 365 tenant to the domain

Domain migration is necessary while performing Office 365 tenant to tenant migration. the whole procedure is complicating itself to perform, but the most challenging task is detaching the domain from the old tenant and attaching it with the new tenant.

We have to detach domain from the old tenant before attaching to a new tenant because the domain cannot be attached to two tenants at a time.

One more thing, the detaching domain will take two days, we cannot attach the domain in a new tenant during this time.

@Sandeep G-MSFT , according to this article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/change-your-sharepoint-domain-name#step-1-add-the-new-domain-name, it is possible to add a second domain name in scenarios where the company name has changed

    @OzDownUnder

Thank you for posting this question in Microsoft Q&A.

As I understand you are trying to delete the domain domain2.onmicrosoft.com from tenant 2. Deleting this domain is as good as deleting a tenant.

You can follow steps in below article to remove domain2.onmicrosoft.com from tenant 2.
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/enterprise-users/directory-delete-howto

Next you want to add domain2.onmicrosoft.com to tenant 1. This is not possible as one Azure AD tenant can have only one domain with ".onmicrosoft.com" suffix.
In tenant 1 you already have domain "domain1.onmicrosoft.com". Hence you will not be able to add another domain with ".onmicrosoft.com" suffix.

However, you will be able to add and verify other custom domains that you own.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
