Hello,

I currently have a samba server ( version 4 ) ( on a ubuntu machine ) with 2 hard drives connected ( both using NTFS format ).
What i want to do is to be able to copy files from my windows 11 machine to this server.
One week ago, everything was working correctly, i just copied 3 to of data without any problems.
And suddenly, every larges files ( some Go ) fail to transfer.
It is very strange :

  • I copy a file from windows ( like a 50go file )
  • I open the samba folder from the network window
  • I past the file
  • The copy window open, but stuck at 0%, the freeze, then the whole explorer freeze around 30seconds, then copy window display the Error 0x8007003B .
  • I click on any button ( close for example )
  • And the explorer freeze for 1-2 minutes then restart

This problem seems to be similar as this one.
I tried to find a solution , what I did is turning off firewall, turning off windows search service. Nothing changed.

So i asked myself if it was the server, hard drives, anything on the other side, so i tried with another computer (on ubuntu ) and everything worked.

Ofc I can just connect my hard drives to my windows machine using USB to copy my files but this is not what I want at the end.

I can continue to browse my files over samba, create files , open thems...
But copy of large files make explorer, and even , sometimes, in short times, my entire desktop to freeze.

I don't know where I can debug, find any errors logs, that could help me to find a solution, but as I can see, it is Windows related.

For more informations everything on my network is wired, locally.

Do you have any ideas ?

Best Regards,

A few more items to try

If using a VPN this can cause this issue with large transfers try turning it off

Run an SFC scan to verify the files your transferring are not damaged

Use the check disk Utility to scan and repair any corrupted sectors.

Perform a system restore on windows
