Can I turn off the IPv6 adapters on end users machines (without affecting anything) if our organisation hasn't turned on IPv6 on the internal network?

Would our organisation remain compliant if we turned off IPv6 adapters on end users machines. Our internal network does not have IPv6 turned on. Our IPv6 adapters are preventing modern standby from entering low power and turning off Ipv6 resolves it. But this ms article says not to [https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/networking/configure-ipv6-in-windows

    Hello there,

Yes you can disable the protocol and still your organization might pass through but it is no recommended as you have stated.

I like to quite this from Microsoft article :

"Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is a mandatory part of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 and newer versions. We do not recommend that you disable IPv6 or its components. If you do, some Windows components may not function".

We recommend using Prefer IPv4 over IPv6 in prefix policies instead of disabling IPV6.

Hope this resolves your Query !!

    Hello Tom,

Can you explain why you use the expression "IPv6 adapters"? Do the same adapters not also handle IPv4 traffic?

I would suggest investigating in more depth (perhaps using Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) providers such as Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power) why the devices are preventing transition to lower power states.

    Gary
