Questions about the UK West Region

Can somebody please explain to me if the UK West Region has any Availability Zones? I see on the following MS page [https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/explore/global-infrastructure/geographies/#geographies that it suggests that the UK West Region does not have any AZs. It states "Nearest Region with zones available is UK South).

Also if there are not any AZs, then what is the point of the Region? Does it still have a Data Centre(s)?

Thanks in advance,

Johnny

    Hi Johnny Gorman Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A.
    As shared by Arun above, your understanding is correct.
    UK West region doesn't have availability zone currently but UK West does have datacenter. Each Azure region features datacenters deployed within a latency-defined perimeter.
    [https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/reliability/availability-zones-overview#regions

    Azure availability zones are physically separate locations within each Azure region. Azure has availability zones in every country in which Azure operates a datacenter region. For now, UK has availability zone available in UK South region only (and not UK West).
    But Azure is rapidly opening new regions and availability zones. Any new updates will be added here.

    Regional Pairs
    Azure regions are designed to offer protection against local disasters with availability zones. But they can also provide protection from regional or large geography disasters with disaster recovery by making use of another region that uses cross-region replication. UK South and UK West are regional pairs to each other, if that helps make a decision.

    @Johnny Gorman @Johnny Gorman

    Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A

    The UK West Region of Azure does not currently have any Availability Zones.

    Even though the UK West region does not have any availability zones it still have Data Centre(s) which provide customers with the ability to deploy and run their services and applications in a specific geographic location. This can be useful for compliance and regulatory reasons, as well as for performance and latency considerations.
