Hello,

anyone was able to implement ZeroConfigExchange ?

Looks that settings which are described for example here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/outlook-global-customer-service/zeroconfigexchange-automating-the-creation-of-an-outlook-profile/ba-p/389691 - they are not working.

By default, zeroconfigexchange is configured in Polices key for user. But user still receive a popup to create a new profile.

So I tried to create a new profile using registry. Still this same issue.

Machine is fully AAD.

Office version is 2016 VL.

    Hi @Jakub Piesik ,

Does this issue happen to every user?

But user still receive a popup to create a new profile.

Do you mean it still prompts the "Welcome to Outlook 2016" setup wizard?

ZeroConfigExchange (ZCE) is basically just for having Outlook set itself up based on the user's info. So, if you had a clean Outlook install with no profiles, the first time you open Outlook it will run you through the wizard.

    Hello @Faery Fu-MSFT

So how I should implement this solution finally? I tried even with Default profile which via Registry key. Unfortunately, key is removed during opening of Outlook.

If I understand correctly, ZCE is used to automatically configure for end-user silently. So user just opening Outlook first time and Outlook is already configured - without typing the profile name, email settings etc. Like I have on the Outlook from Office 365 which is installed on another organzanizations.

For Outlook 2016 I'm not able to replicate that kind of settings.

I tried to push configuration from Intune for User group.

    Screenshot 2023-02-02 065600

Setting is applied before first run of Outlook - key is exist in the registry. I checked that.

There are no profiles in the user system - not visible on the "Mail" settings in the Control Panel.

And when user is opening Outlook - is asked for provide an email address, password etc.

    I'm doing something wrong?

You might have the same issue I am experiencing. Intune Settings Catalogue is creating the registry key
    HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover
    ZeroConfigExchange REG_DWORD 1

But Outlook does not seem to acknowledge this key.

If I manually create the key
    HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover
    ZeroConfigExchange REG_DWORD 1

Outlook will run as expected and automatically create the profile.

I don't know if the issue is Settings Catalogue creating the key in the wrong location or Outlook not checking the new location for the setting.

We were having the same issue with ZeroConfigExchange setting not working. Based on James Kyle's answer, I tried deleting/re-creating the Outlook key and that fixed the issue. I started investigating further and discovered that it was not the recreation of the key itself that fixed the issue, but the fact that we had a another value that was preventing ZeroConfigExchange from working located under the Outlook key:

Delete DisableExchange (or set to Zero):

    Registry Hive HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Registry Hive HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Registry Path software\policies\microsoft\office\16.0\outlook\options
    Value Name disableexchange
    Value Type REG_DWORD
    Default Value 0
    True Value 1
    False Value 0
