Hello,

I am experiencing problem migrating SharePoint 2013 Search to SharePoint 2019 Search. I have taking a backup of the admin-database from SP2013 which I am using to restore the Search application in SharePoint 2016. Everything is ok and it works fine. Then I take a backup of the admin-database in SharePoint 2016 over to SharePoint 2019.

When I try to restore (Restore-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication) the Search Service application in SharePoint 2019 I get this error:

********************************************************
Restore-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication : PartitionMode

At line:3 char:1

+ Restore-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -Name $searchServiceName ...

+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<u1:p></u1:p>

    + CategoryInfo : InvalidData: (Microsoft.Offic...viceApplication:

   RestoreSearchServiceApplication) [Restore-SPEnter...viceApplication],NotSupportedException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Cmdlet.RestoreSearchServiceApplication

********************************************************

There is old archived question https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/6687fbbe-eebc-4481-a888-66dc9eb43533/migrating-sharepoint-2013-to-sharepoint-2019-search-application. I have exactly same problem.

Is there any updates for this?

Thank you.

    Hi @Miikka Lehtonen ,

After my internal and external searches, no updates on this issue have been found so far.

Have you tried individually Back up Search service applications in SharePoint Server 2016 and then Restore Search service applications in SharePoint Server 2019?

If none of these work, it is recommended that you can only rebuild the configuration of the Search Service Application in 2019.
