Have seen somewhat similar issues posted by others and have tried all of the suggested options. Background involves a Win 10 Home Desktop that has the host drives to be mapped to (I'll refer to as Desktop), and 2 laptops, one a Win 10 Home I'll refer to as Laptop1 and the other a Win 11 Home I'll refer to as Laptop2. Desktop is ethernet back to the Wi-Fi router with SSID1 and Laptop1 roams between SSID1 and SSID2 that is from an access point downstream of the upstream Wi-Fi router. Laptop1 has always been able to successfully map to the shared drives on Desktop. Haven't had much need to map the other direction but configured that through troubleshooting issues involving Laptop2. So, tried mapping Laptop2 to Desktop and kept getting either need to authenticate as in login or Network Error Windows cannot access \Desktop\share. You do not have permission to access.... To make a long story short, followed numerous avenues of options and suggested fixes found here and elsewhere. All three currently have Share permissions set for both an account login and Everyone for all involved drives; Windows feature SMB 1.0 client and server On; Network and Sharing Center Private (current) discovery and file/printer sharing On, Guest/Public discovery and file/printer sharing On, and All Networks Public folder On and Password Protected Sharing Off; and Services Function Discovery Provider Host, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host all set to Automatic. Am able to map Laptop1 to Laptop2 and vice versa as long as Laptop2's screen doesn't go blank I'm assuming into a standby state. But can't get Laptop2 to map to Desktop. Did end up going into the Security settings on the Desktop drive E to add Everyone which seems to then allow Laptop2 to map but wasn't able to add Everyone to Desktop's C and F drives on account of some other access issues suggestive of files being in use or something - still trying to work out what is going on there. But the main issue is that having to set Security access shouldn't be a requirement in being able to get drives mapped successfully. Suggestion also arose about using Regedit to set ProviderFlags to 1 assume there is a drive letter there that can be modified. Thanks.
