I am writing to inquire about the support for multiple PDU sessions in Windows operating systems when connecting to a mobile broadband device.

As a developer, I have a requirement to connect multiple PDU sessions to my mobile broadband device (EM9190 - sierra wireless). I would like to know if Windows operating systems support multiple PDUs when connecting to a mobile broadband device.

I would greatly appreciate if you could provide me with detailed information on this matter, including any specific versions of Windows that support this feature and any hardware compatibility requirements that may exist.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Hi. Thank you for your question and reaching out. I’d be more than happy to help you with your query.

Windows operating system does not support multiple PDU (Protocol Data Unit) sessions when connecting to a mobile broadband device. In other words, only one PDU session can be established between a Windows device and a mobile broadband device at a time. This means that only one application can send or receive data over the mobile broadband connection at a time.

However, multiple applications can access the internet using the mobile broadband connection by sharing the same PDU session. When an application sends or receives data over the mobile broadband connection, the data is encapsulated into PDUs and transmitted to the mobile broadband device. The mobile broadband device then decapsulates the PDUs and sends the data over the cellular network to the internet.

If you need to establish multiple PDU sessions for different applications, you may consider using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or a proxy server to create multiple virtual connections over the single PDU session.
