MS365: Default Values on single documents deleted within document set

We have created document sets in a SP library, which have default values attached to it. All documents within the document sets typically have the tagging driven from the default values. Still it happens that for some reason users of single documents manage to delete these default values, so that this document is left untagged within all other documents still being tagged. How can this happen? Did anyone experience same?
Thanks in advance!

    Hi @Lässig, Yvonne ,

As per my understanding, you added default content and columns as tag to the Document Set content type. So, when users create a document set, they fill in the tag column field and default content files are all tagged. But the users can delete the values of the tag column fields of the default files, right? Apologize in advance if I misunderstood.

From my point of view, this is by default if you set the tag column editable and the users have higher permission level than "Contribute".

    Hi Allen

this is a good hint. I will check the users who were able to adjust the content types according to their permissions.

I suspect that the deletion was done by mistake and not by intention. But this is not yet proven.

Let me investigate and kindly come back once again, when I struggle.
