One Tenant and select where data is managed

Hi,

I'm Global admin in my tenant.

I can't remember how to see where SharePoint and MS Teams data is currently and physically stored.

The end goal is for Canadian customers to have their data in cloud servers physically in Canada and for American customers to have their data physically on cloud servers in the United States.

I don't know if it's possible to configure the tenant and tell it that for certain sites the data must be hosted in a specific country. Maybe we need 2 tenants. Please help.

Thanks,

Phil

    Hey There,

If you go to the M365 Admin Center, then:

    • Navigate to Settings
    • then Org Settings
    • Then Organization Profile
    • then finally Data location

you should find what you're looking for there.

    User's image

The following excerpt is from Microsoft's documentation on Multi-Geo, which confirms what you're thinking:

By default, Microsoft 365 resources for your users are located in the same geo as your Azure AD tenant. For example, if your tenant is located in North America, then the users' Exchange mailboxes are also located in North America. For a multinational organization, this might not be optimal. By setting the attribute preferredDataLocation, you can define a user's geo. You can have the user's Microsoft 365 resources, such as the mailbox and OneDrive, in the same geo as the user, and still have one tenant for your entire organization.

It's worth going over Microsoft's documentation on the subject, especially wi9th your Multi-Geo considerations. Links below:

    Hope that's helped!
