I use different groups with web servers front end and database servers as back end.

My FE are several 2016/19 windows server VMs and the backend sql server on windows server VMs.

I recently discovered UMC but I can only manage simple windows server VM, not the sql template.

It was amazing to be able to manage all my VMs with this tool.

Why MS cannot consent to manage also this kind of VM??

Regards,
Graziano.

    Hello @Graziano Tartari

Glad to know your experience with update management center is amazing.
Your understanding is right! Update Management is part of Azure Auto Manage which supports patching of guest Windows Servers and some Linux specific distributions on azure as per the information in the following support matrix document

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/update-center/support-matrix?tabs=azurevm%2Cazurevm-os#supported-operating-systems

It is not capable of managing SQL Server VMs. You can use other tools such as Microsoft System Center or Windows Intune to manage SQL Server VMs.

Please note that update management center is still a public preview services. As the service evolves, the product team will consider other major services like SQL as well.

    Note:

    • For Azure VMs, we currently support a combination of Offer, Publisher, and SKU of the VM image.
    • See the list of supported OS images.
    • Custom images are currently not supported.

    Hope this information helps!
