Securing Google workspace with Active Directory

Question

At work we have a mixed Microsoft and Google set up, we use AD and Google workspace. We need to make the set up secure so I have suggested using ADFS and single sign on as a secure measure and the only way to access Google workspace. This seemed a secure solution to me but another Cyber consultant disagrees. Any suggestions as to why, also do you agree with my solution.
