I downloaded the back up file to mount the drive from Azure backup. A password was generated but I forgot to copy it down. The 30 day retention period has passed for that file. Is there a way I can get the generated password?

Unfortunately, if you have forgotten the password that was generated to protect your backup file in Azure Backup, there is no direct way to recover it. This is because the password is encrypted and stored in a way that is not retrievable by Microsoft or any other entity.

However, there are a few things you can try to recover the password:

    1. Check if you have saved the password somewhere, such as in a password manager or a text file on your computer.
    2. Try to remember the password by going through any relevant notes or documentation that you may have created around the time the backup was taken.
    3. If you have other users who have access to the same Azure Backup account, check if they have the password or if they have any information that could help you recover it.

If none of the above methods work, unfortunately, it is not possible to recover the backup file password. In this case, you will need to create a new backup and ensure that you save the password in a safe place. It is recommended to use a strong password and store it securely to avoid losing access to your backup data in the future.
