Authenticator abruptly stopped sending notifications, so I can't verify a sign-in

All notifications and location services are on, and I get notifications from all other apps. As of this morning, Authenticator is not sending any kind of notification as it used to whenever I request a two-step sign-in to one of my Microsoft products.

Uninstalling the Authenticator app and reinstalling it is not an option, as ironically, the new install of Authenticator requires verification on Authenticator before it can sign me in.

Beyond restarting my device, Samsung S22, what are my troubleshooting options?

Hi Lance Hawvermale, I hope I can help you with this question.

    Please check the following:

    • Notifications are still active for the authenticator?
    • Is the device not in do not disturb or focus mode?
    • Is it possible to test the authenticator app on another device with the user?
    • Reset MFA sessions in Azure AD and check if the problem is solved with a complete MFA re-registration process

If none of the approaches are helpful, check if the user(s) are running into an Authentication Throttle issue. If too many requests have been sent to the authentication endpoint in a short time interval, there is a risk of throttling.

You can easily check this. Go to the sign-in logs of AzureAD and check the authentication details. See more details here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/authentication/howto-mfa-reporting
