Automatic Deallocation at logoff does not work

Hi everyone,

I've tried setting up automatic deallocation at logoff for a personal VM using this guide https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-virtual-desktop/deallocate-vm-on-user-logoff/m-p/2280211

When I logoff, the VM automatic shuts down (that's what I expect), but does not deallocate my user.

Any ideas?

Can you please add bit more details to assist you further on this?

What do you mean the user isn't being deallocated?

If you are initiating the log off but you are not being shown as logged off the session host prior to the VM being deallocated (ie the session shows as just in a disconnected state) then it's possible that the script is triggering the deallocate, and subsequently shutting down the rdagent too soon and not allowing the user logoff to complete in time.

Is this a personal host? Or multisession?

Assuming it's a personal host, then are you running the script as the user account (sound likely)? If so, can you initiate the call to deallocate the machine as the system account, that only runs a minute or so after logoff, allowing the logoff to complete? Alternatively, running the logoff script that instead triggers a logic app/function that then deallocates the machine after a timeout may be preferred, using the machines managed identity for authentication instead.
