Migration KMS Server

Hi All, We currently have two kms servers, the old server using WS 2012 and the new server using WS 2022. We are planning to migrate the KMS server from old to new, but we don't have the knowledge for that. Can you help us to give advice? Really appreciate for your answer!!!

    I suggest you follow the same process to install KMS on the new server.

    For Office KMS activation, please refer to article 'Configure a KMS host computer to activate volume licensed versions of Office'.

    HI ,

    There are certain Steps that you need to follow

    1. INstall the Volume Activation Service role on the new Server
    2. Once the installation of the Volume Activation Services role has been completed, Volume Activation Tools (found under Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Volume Activation Tools) will need to be opened to Configure KMS
    3. You will get something like the below User's image
    4. The next window will allow you to enter the KM key , since you are having 2022 Server , make sure that you have 2022 KMS keys

    5.Configure the KMS Server option like below and run slmgr /ato

    1. And that should be it.

    Once this is done , you can delete the DNS details for the current KMS and point it to the new one.

    Open DNS console > Expand _tcp node under the domain.com. There will be a record _VLMCS. There will be a record _VLMCS. Modify this record for new KMS Host

    Just do an in-place upgrade to Windows Server 2022. The process is pretty safe and straightforward. Generally, no step-by-step guidance is required.
