Animating a fade on a photo so it doesnt reappear.

I am working in PowerPoint 2019. On a presentation slide I have placed two stacked photos. When I animate the top photo to "fade away" it returns back after it fades. I'd like it to stay off my screen so the photo below can viewed and discussed.

    I want to confirm that whether you set other animation for the top photo?

    Please go to Animations > Advanced Animations group > Animation Pane > Right click the top picture > Effect Options > Timing, make sure the box of "Rewind when done playing" is not checked.
