AAD Application Proxy + RDS HTML5 Web Client = significant lag
It seems like the combination of AAD App Proxy and the RDS HTML5 web client is not the most ideal combination. We are using this for a POC to provide remote access. But it seems these two are not very optimized for each other even though it's a supported solution. The setup is straightforward: Single server Windows Server 2022 RDS setup where ALL RDS roles are installed on a single server AAD Proxy agent is installed on the same RDS server (and region in AAD config is closest to physical region of server) Specs: 12 cores, 30gb ram (the system is really overpowered) Internet speed: 380Mbps/240Mbps, 4-10ms latency Have tried multiple things already:
- Adding AAD App proxy service to A/V exclusion
- Bypassing any TLS inspection
- Optimizing performance and power features
- Tuning network adapter settings
Sadly non of this really helps. Other browser based solutions seem to perform much better. I assume this is because they inherently also use UDP in their backend opposed to TCP. I hope the Windows and AAD team can improve this because this solution can offer a lot of possibilities for securing remote access for small environments that can't afford big budget third party solutions. Right now it can't be This is also not something new, see: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1038220/rds-html5-webclient-via-appproxy-to-onpremise-worl https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/82240/rds-2019-with-azure-app-proxy-lots-of-lag-and-disc Please Microsoft do something about this.
