Hi, if you hold down the CTRL key as you drag the email into SharePoint, it stays in the inbox
e-mails are deleted when sharing to sharepoint
Whenever dragging and dropping emails to a sharepoint library from Outlook 365 desktop app, the cursor turns into a box and the email is moved to the deleted emails folder of Outlook. How do you share to sharepoint but keep the email in the inbox?
Outlook
SharePoint

2023-05-10T13:52:28.5066667+00:00 I have the exact same problem (very recently) almost like an update has been applied somewhere without warning.
I have read up on several fixes (mainly to do with javascript) but nothing is working and it seems like a setting which Microsoft need to disable from their end over anything we can do.
I have informed the staff to copy to desktop first or use ctrl+z for now but will be keeping my eyes peeled for a fix (and informing Microsoft support)
The "Library settings" checked out document options have no bearing on this sadly.

2023-05-10T15:57:20.0733333+00:00 In our testing, this issue initially only affected users if they were using Chrome, however I've now tested again and the issue occurs in Edge too, where it didn't before.

2023-05-15T19:42:05.5966667+00:00 May 9th there were updates to Office 365 and Office 2019. This issue was reported by the OP on May 4th, so I doubt the Office updates are to blame. My users drag and drop emails from Outlook to SharePoint Online all day, every day, and they did not notice this issue until this morning. So Friday, no issue, Monday morning, issue.

2023-05-15T20:17:57.03+00:00 What version of Edge is everyone using? Assuming this issue is happening in Edge for everyone. I am noticing that we are all on Edge 113.0.1774.42, which is a update from May 11, which could definitely explain why we didnt see the issue until today.
So far I can find nothing in the release notes about this issue, whether it was a feature release or a fix.
Of course this is not very helpful...

2023-05-15T20:21:55.71+00:00 It's doing this in both Edge and Chrome for us. I do assume it is browser related. Thankfully holding CTRL is a workable fix that I've emailed to all staff.
Version 113.0.1774.42 (Official build) (64-bit) - Edge
Version 113.0.5672.93 (Official Build) (64-bit) - ChromeAnd of course drag and drop does not work in Firefox, so can't test there.

2023-05-15T20:24:58.6166667+00:00 Thanks for the response! I was hoping it was browser and not Office or SharePoint. Unfortunately we do not use alternate browsers, only Edge, so I have instructed my users to keep using CTRL for the foreseeable future.

2023-05-15T22:12:27.2966667+00:00 We are on Edge Version 112.0.1722.68 which appears to align with when the move to deleted items issue started.

2023-05-16T10:08:54.82+00:00 It would appear Firefox v113 now supports drag and drop sharing from Outlook to SharePoint. Furthermore, the message isn't deleted on completion of the share action. At least for the moment.
CTRL is the most viable workaround for those who cannot install Firefox, though. A right-click drag as in file dragging in Windows Explorer doesn't work for Outlook to Edge drags, sadly.
Timing-wise, the change seems coincidentally close to the release of the new Outlook, and I suspect is also part of the path towards Microsoft's "One Outlook" vision.

2023-05-17T13:20:49.4833333+00:00 Good morning! So this morning it is just working again, no moving emails to deleted items when I drag and drop them to SharePoint. Anyone seeing the same thing? No change to the version of MS Edge or Outlook. Unless an update was made to SharePoint, I am not sure what happened. My users are able to drag and drop again and I have tested it as working, also.

2023-05-17T13:31:20.2666667+00:00 Yea, I suppose my SP tenant might be in the right place. I had a couple of my AP folks tell me this morning that it was working again, so i tested, then verified version numbers hadn't changed. Still no work from MS. I opened a ticket and crickets. It hasn't even been assigned to anyone yet.

2023-05-17T15:41:47.9166667+00:00 I am having this exact same issue. I am working on a desktop version of Outlook and Sharepoint is online. I copy out important emails to Sharepoint all day long. How do I stop them from being automatically deleted? I tried the fixes below and holding down the Ctrl key worked so it that now something I am going to have to start doing from now on?

2023-05-17T15:49:53.8433333+00:00 I opened a ticket this morning for our organisation whereby for us it was working okay last week and stopped later last week/early this week. Up until 2pm today it kept deleting the email but it's now reverted back to what it was before. Ticket hasnt been updated but am wondering as mentioned above if this is a tenancy change. If/when they update the ticket I'll feedback here.

2023-05-22T11:36:15.0633333+00:00 We experienced this change of behaviour aswell. But today after trying to describe some steps to reproduce it seems that this is again working as expected without any changes from our side. I could drag and drop an email to a sharepoint site and the email remains in the Outlook Inbox. I couldn't find any information about this change but it seems to be working again.

I opened the ticket at 1:08pm on May 16, and I have not heard from them at all, not one email or phone call. That is not normal.

Replied this morning to explain it's back to as it was, but want confirmation from them that the expected behaviour isnt going to be one they implement again without warning and if it is to point me in the direction of the article that describes this change.

2023-05-22T14:22:35.7933333+00:00 Exactly! I don't mind most changes, as long as they are warning/informing us of them beforehand. There has to be a changelog somewhere detailing this change. You can't tell me an org as large as MS is just making whimsical changes whenever it wants, there has to be a change request and a process to test and approve it. Show me the article.

2023-06-20T08:46:41.77+00:00 It's also the new default behaviour when dragging a e-mail message from Outlook desktop to a channel in Teams Desktopapp.
Right-button-dragging isn't working in this combination of Outlook and Teams. And if you want to share e-mail information with your Team, most colleages want to keep the message in the inbox as well. -

2023-05-15T22:38:37.79+00:00 This trick worked. I think instead this minor change Drag/Drop with or w/o Cntl key, it would be easier to just ask before deleting the original email! Thanks you!

2023-05-16T18:51:22.87+00:00 True and I agree with you. But as of now, lots of people don't know their original emails have been deleted. My suggestion is let user decided to bypass the popup notification by letting them know that the email will be deleted from outlook when drag/drop from outlook to SharePoint Online. It was a suggestion to band aid the recent change! (~:)

2023-06-14T12:29:29.16+00:00 Yeah, bug (feature) does seem to have raised it's head again.
Ian Ramsden suggested dragging to the Document Library. Message is untouched in Outlook. Whether in Edge (Chromium) or Firefox (v113+). Dragging to the web part deletes the message in Edge but not Firefox.
Refinement of drag and drop events relating to SharePoint in browsers?

2023-06-14T15:14:47.56+00:00 Strangely, drag and drop to a document library on a different tenant's SharePoint site deletes the message in Outlook when using Edge. Only way around the behaviour is to hold
CTRL
while copying.Outlook items aren't affected when dropping on the same SharePoint using Firefox. So the issue remains unresolved for that tenant.

2023-06-20T10:18:57.96+00:00 Yes, it has returned. Last time by the time Microsoft Support got back to me it was resolved by itself.
Now Microsoft support claims it is working as intended due to a 'change' (but they fail to tell us which documented change this is) and that there is nothing they can do but tell us to voice our 'displeasure' on the uservoice forums, together with the couple of other tennants that have reported this issue. They didn't even want to escalate the issue past their first line technical team that simply confirmed: "yes, when you drag and drop your mail dissapears, so that is the way it's supposed to be".
Which has me and my colleague's, and our users that have accessibility issues kind off annoyed.
The only thing I can urge people to do is keep filing support tickets through https://admin.microsoft.com/ so they finally recognize this is a recurring issue.

2023-05-04T12:30:43.8933333+00:00 This issue can occur if the SharePoint library is set to require check-out before editing. To fix this, try the following:
- Open the SharePoint library in question and click on the gear icon in the top-right corner.
- Select "Library settings" from the drop-down menu.
- Click on "Versioning settings" under the "General settings" section.
- Check if the "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited?" option is selected. If it is, deselect it and save the changes.
- Try dragging and dropping emails to the SharePoint library again.

2023-05-10T23:42:02.8933333+00:00 I have reviewed the suggested solution and our "Require documents to b checked out before they can be edited?" setting was already set to no and we are having this issue - so I don't think this is the issue. It does seem to be a change that Microsoft has recently made, as our staff were saving to SharePoint via the drag and drop method prior to this without it moving the emails into the deleted folder.

2023-05-15T18:59:23.4333333+00:00 We just started experiencing this issue today. My AP folks drag and drop emails from Outlook to SharePoint Online all day, and they were working fine on Friday. I see no updates to Office, so I can only think this is an update to SharePoint Online that was rolled out. Drag and Drop is a Move, and a Move typically removes the file from one place and places it in a new place. Holding down CTRL while doing it makes it a Copy, which leaves the original and makes a copy in the new place. But why would MS decide to make this change now?

2023-05-15T19:46:10.9333333+00:00 from my operational delivery area it was only noticed today - but looking through the deleted items (nothing in our organisation is deleted only archived) would suggest that this may have been occurring since 2nd May as deleted items span that far. More frustratingly is lack of prior inform about the roll out of such a feature nor option to disable as a function

2023-06-14T18:19:57.5+00:00 Our settings do not require approval, creates major versions, keep 500 versions, and does NOT require anything checked out before they an be edited.
Issue is still present for us. Very annoying, with file explorer the ctrl changing the default behavior. So from outlook to file explorer folder I can click ctrl and change it to do deleted items folder and click ctrl again and change it to "copy" email to file explorer folder.
I don't have to keep clicking ctrl for each email. Once I set my behavior, it stays that way.
Not the case with using ctrl for copying email from outlook to sharepoint library. Super strange and annoying. I don't want to click ctrl each time I freaking save an email for documentation to a sharepoint library. I will say you can open libraries in file explorer so if you are saving them to file explorer to add it to SharePoint library, then you COULD avoid this all together but some people don't like using file explorer to access SharePoint sites.
Please fix this to have the same behavior and settings that works for outlook to file explorer!

But when I use outlook 2019, the mail is not deleted.
Therefore, we recommend that you consider using Outlook 2019 first.
Or here are some other ways about send email to SharePoint for your reference:

2023-05-15T19:22:53.1766667+00:00 Using Office 2019 is not an option for us. We are licensed for Office 365, having E3 and E5 licenses. Also, your version, 1808 build 10730, is a very old build. I think it is from 2018, so you haven't received the update that causes this issue, if it is an Office issue, but I am thinking the issue is a SharePoint Online issue.
I just verified the issue exists on my current Office Standard 2019 install. Here is my version, which is the current version, according to Microsoft, put out on May 9th.
