"You''ll need the Internet for this"

I am constantly getting this error message that I am not connected to the internet when I try to do microsoft related tasks. Examples include trying to use the Windows Store and trying to access my online OneNotes.

The error message reads "It doesn't look like you're connected to the Internet. Check your connection and try again." And accompanying it is this error code 0x800704cf.

I obviously have an internet connection, and accessing microsoft related webpages through my browser works just fine, but when I attempt to do so within Windows 10 this error appears.

Ive tried disabling and reenabling my Wi-Fi devices, changing proxy settings and so far nothing has changed. I just installed the April 2018 windows update, and the problem has persisted.

Thanks for the Help

Edit: I can't even add my outlook email to the Mail app in windows I just get the same error message. Gmail works just fine with the Mail app however.

Please try these options one by one and check after each option.

    1. Open MS Store > Click on your profile picture on top right and sign-out. Then sign-in again.
    2. Run Windows App Troubleshooter

Windows Key+X > Click Settings > Click Update & security > Click Troubleshoot > Scroll down to the bottom > Click Windows Store Apps > Click Run the Troubleshooter

    1. Reset Windows Store through Command Prompt

Type cmd in Windows Search box > Right click on Command Prompt > Run As Administrator > Type WSreset.exe and click Enter > Reboot your computer

    1. Re-register All Store apps

Right click on Windows Start > Right click on Windows Powershell (Admin) > Copy the following from below and right click in Powershell to paste > Enter > Restart your computer

    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    1. Uninstall & Reinstall Store

Right click on Windows Start > Right click on Windows Powershell (Admin) > Copy the following from below and right click in Powershell to paste > Enter

    Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Remove-AppxPackage

Copy the following from below and right click in Powershell to paste > Enter > Reboot your computer

    Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

Let me know if you have any more question or require further help. If above didn't work, I will supply more troubleshooting steps to solve this problem.

This problem isnt exclusive to Windows Store. Whenever i try to do anything with my Microsoft account i get the error message.

I logged out of windows store, and couldnt log back in because the error message said i have no internet.

I basically can't use anything that requires my Microsoft account because whenever I do it says no internet and then I am stuck.

First you should run Internet Connections / Network / Hardware & devices Troubleshooter and then execute Microsoft recommended troubleshooting steps. Update me once done.

    A. Run Internet Connections / Network / Hardware & Devices Troubleshooters

    Windows Key+I > Update & Security > Troubleshoot >

    1. Click Internet Connections > Run the Troubleshooter
    2. Click Network adapters > Run the Troubleshooter
    3. Click Hardware & Devices > Run the Troubleshooter

    B. IP and DNS Setting

Type ncpa.cpl in Windows start > Right click on your network > Properties > Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Hit properties > Make sure below ones are checked

    Obtain an IP Address Automatically

    Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically

    C. Head to following Microsoft Help Link and execute the steps there

I have gone through all of the steps you suggested.

Troubleshooting solved nothing. Hardware troubleshooter asked for a restart but that didnt fix anything.

DNS and IPv4 settings are all set to what they should be.

From the other list you sent i tried reinstalling and uninstalling network drivers, disabling firewall and network reset. The problem persists. I still cannot log in using my Microsoft account. I can input my email and password, after which it starts loading. However after that it the error message appears.

I would recommend that you perform a Windows 10 repair upgrade. Repair upgrade fixes all Windows errors and retains all files, applications and settings. (You will not lose any data while backup is a good idea) Below is a good guide to perform repair upgrade
