I have created an azure data factory alerts rule that monitors whether an activity has failed or not. What is not clear to me is the pricing of this alerts rule. While I see on the pricing table that activity log warnings are free, on the resource in the azure portal it shows a estimated price per month. This price does not show up in my billing overview. Is this price indeed billed or is it actually free to have an alerts rule on azure data factory?

Alert types are not a resource specific. There are not separate alerts for Data Factory, Cosmos DB, etc. Alert types depend on the signal type used. In your case it is metric alert that is based on Azure native metrics. Almost every resource has some metrics that are available by default and you can use those metrics to create alert rules. Your alert rule is Azure Monitor native metrics.

Thank you! I understand it a bit better now. As for the time series price. Is there any way i can calculate this? And how come these costs don't show up in the azure billing of the specified subscription?

Let's say you have selected only activity name and failure type for dimensions and you have selected 8 values for the first and 3 for the second. In that case we multiply 8 and 3 and the end result is 24. That means you have 24 time series. If the cost is 0.10 $ per series for month, the end cost of the alert is 2.4 $.

Why the cost does not appear? That I do not know. It is unclear where exactly you check for the cost and when. If you do not see the cost appearing in some of the Cost Management views may be you should open support ticket. In cost managemnet these alerts are with meter "Alerts Metric Monitored"
