Azure function is linked to a static web app however it is still accessible anonymously

Hopefully someone might be able to help.

I have a static web app linked to an azure function (BYOF) and as part of this linking process I can see the identity provider added to the azure function in the Authentication section.

My understanding from reading the document linked above is this should block access to the api from external requests outside my static web application. However when I navigate to the https://swaurl/api/myfunction I can still run the function.

Any help would be appreciated, the aim here is only the SWA can call the functions.
