    The 2 most obvious issues would be that WMI is corrupt on your PC or your monitor does not support adjusting the brightness.

    Do these commands work?

    Get-WmiObject -Namespace root\wmi -Class WmiMonitorID
    Get-WmiObject -Namespace root\wmi -Class WmiMonitorBrightness
