How can I learn about fixes to SSRS rendering of styles controlled by expressions, especially to Excel?

The SSRS export to Excel (and sometimes the SSRS portal itself) does not always render style elements that are controlled by expressions.

For example, an expression that sets the border style of a cell to "Solid" for some data and (using an expression) to "None" for others will likely display correctly in the Report Designer, incorrectly on the web portal and incorrectly in the Excel export.

As we are presently using SSRS 2016 (Standard), I've been trying to research rendering improvements in later releases, to help us choose 2019 versus 2022 (we may be limited to 2019 by one of our application software vendors).I have viewed the "What's New in Reporting Services" page in detail and there is essentially no mention of improvements or fixes to outstanding features or issues.

Where can I learn if some of these issues with expressions and styling been fixed and in what versions of SSRS?

    Hi @Cornan The Iowan

If you want to know what bugs are fixed for the SSRS version, you can check the release notes: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/release-notes-reporting-services?view=sql-server-ver16.

Exporting reports to Excel also has some limitations, you can check this link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/report-builder/exporting-to-microsoft-excel-report-builder-and-ssrs?view=sql-server-ver16.

    Best regards,

    Aniya
