I am trying to track usage of who reads a document that our team publishes to a SharePoint site. We expected the views to be higher. What counts as a "view"? Do viewers need to be on the document for a certain amount of time? Is there any additional criteria?

Per my research, the algorithm used to calculate view count is designed to filter out repetitive, continual operations by the same user on the same document. For example, when a user repeatedly refreshes a document. There is no specific requirement that viewers need to be on the document for a certain amount of time.
