How to ensure monitor wakeup when laptop is unlocked

SHORT VERSION: When I lock my docked laptop in Windows 10 and it stays that way longer than a minute, the monitors on the dock don't wake back up on unlock.

LONG VERSION

I'm using a LenovoThinkpad with Lenovo docking station and two Acer montiors, one attached to the dock via DP, one via HDMI. I've got the monitors all set up the way I want, with one (DP) duplicating the laptop screen and one (HDMI) extending.

Here's the problem. If I lock the laptop and almost instantly unlock, the monitors stay active. No surprise there; they haven't had time to go idle. If I put my computer to sleep for the night and come back the next morning, the monitors activate after I login. Again, this is desired functionality.

However, if I lock the laptop for, say, 5 minutes while I step away for whatever reason, then when I unlock the laptop the monitors stay idle, as if they are getting no active signal from the laptop. The only way I can get them to activate again is by physically unplugging my laptop from the dock and replugging back in. I really don't think this step should be necessary.

Therefore, is there a display setting or adjustment I can change in order to make the monitors wake up on unlocks?
