When I download csv files, windows converts them to xls

When I download csv files form a web app, windows converts them to xls. How do I prevent this.

The conversion from csv in the app to xls happens without my interacting in any way with excel. Currently my workaround is to open it in Notepad++ and convert back to csv which is annoying. The webapp in question is JupyterLab. Things tried: switching the web browser associated with the webapp from Chrome to Mozilla

Hello.

We can guess in your question that Excel is used by default to open csv's file.

To choose another program, open a file explorer, browse a location that contains a csv file.

Then right click on it > Open with > Another program.

Select your prefered program and tick "use by default".

Click "ok".
