How do you delete a Tenant after leaving?

I have a Azure account linked to my personal Microsoft account and has an Azure AD B2C resource with a Tenant that has a domain of "example-business.onmicrosoft.com" (not real domain, just using it to make it easier to explain).

Months later I created a proper Microsoft 365 Business account with an email address, let's say it's "******@example-business.com".

I wanted delete the Tenant in my personal Azure account so that my business Azure account could claim "example-business.onmicrosoft.com".

I thought I could delete the Tenant by leaving it and making it an orphaned Tenant, hoping that Azure would delete it.

However, a couple of hours after leaving the Tenant, I still cannot create a new Azure AD B2C resource with domain of the orphaned Tenant because it still exists.

Any ideas on how I can claim that domain for my new Azure AD B2C resource?

    Hello @Anonymous

    Thank you for reaching out. I would like to confirm that correct steps to delete Azure AD B2C tenant is listed on following documentation link: Clean up resources and delete the tenant

    If you have already left the tenant and there are no global admin on the tenant (Orphaned Tenant), then you might need to raise an Azure Support request with Azure AD Team who would help you connect with appropriate team so that you can get access back to the original tenant then delete the tenant to reuse the domain somewhere else. You can create Azure Support Request by following the steps listed on following documentation: How to create an Azure Support Request.

    I hope this helps to resolve your query. Please "Accept the answer" if the information helped you. This will help us and others in the community as well.

    @Anonymous

    Thank you for reaching out.

    If you have already left the tenant and there are no global admin on the tenant (Orphaned Tenant), then you will have to reach out to the Azure Data Protection team to restore access. 866-807-5850

    Also, for the future, you can create an emergency access account (break glass) in Azure AD. This account will help prevent being accidentally locked out of your Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) organization because you can't sign in for any reason.

    Some other support option include;

    AzureSupport

    or creating a ticket through a different account:  https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/get-help-support?view=o365-worldwide#phone-support

    Once you get access to the B2C tenant you can follow steps in below article to delete Azure AD B2C tenant.
