L2PT VPN connection restricts internet connection

Question

I am currently working from home and connecting to my work PC via L2PT VPN connection and Remote Desktop Connection. It is working perfectly fine on Windows 10. However, If I do a fresh install on Windows 11, the connection is fine for a couple of hours and then for some reason I can not get more then 1/2 mbpr when connected to the VPN, while before that I am getting around 100 mbpr. I have done all the guides that are available on the Internet, but nothing is helping.

Thank you for your question and reaching out.

That may be connected to the L2TP issues brought on by the Windows 11 upgrade from May 2023.

After receiving numerous user reports, Microsoft announced that it would look into the issue.

Furthermore, despite the fact that the "Windows Remote Access Service L2TP Driver" fix is included in the June 2023 update, it is unknown whether or not the issues brought on by the May update are anyway connected to this patch. Therefore, it is uncertain whether this update has already been resolved or will be in the near future.

There are only two choices under Windows up until that point: either switch back to Windows 10 or alter the VPN connection protocol to OpenVPN, WireGuard, or even PPTP (depending on your environment and security needs).
