Issue where some users cannot connect to the WSUS Management Console.

We are currently using Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), version 10.0.17763.2931.

The WSUS service is running on a dedicated server, separate from the one we use for operations. For administration, we access the WSUS console from this operational server.
When we attempt to connect to the WSUS server from the WSUS management console, we are encountering an issue. While some users can connect without problems, others cannot.
When the connection fails, the following error message is displayed: "Cannot connect to 'FQDN of WSUS'. Please ensure that the post-installation tasks have been successfully completed on the server. If they have been completed successfully, check if the server is using a different port or SSL settings."
Given that some users can successfully connect to the WSUS management console and that Windows Updates can be run on the relevant server, we believe there are no issues with our network permissions.
We would like to ensure that the WSUS management console can be accessed by all users, regardless of their account. Any assistance in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hello there,

If some users are unable to connect to the WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) Management Console, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

Check user permissions: Ensure that the users experiencing the issue have the necessary permissions to access and manage WSUS. Verify that they have been granted the appropriate administrative privileges or assigned the required WSUS roles and permissions.

Verify network connectivity: Ensure that the affected users have a stable network connection to the server hosting the WSUS Management Console. Check for any network issues that could be preventing connectivity, such as firewall restrictions or network configuration problems.

Check WSUS server availability: Ensure that the WSUS server hosting the Management Console is online and accessible. Verify that the server is powered on and functioning correctly. You can try accessing the WSUS Management Console from another computer to confirm if the issue is specific to certain users or affects all users.

Check WSUS console version compatibility: Verify that the WSUS Management Console version being used by the affected users is compatible with the WSUS server version. If the WSUS Management Console version does not match the server version, it can result in connection issues. Update the WSUS Management Console to the appropriate version if needed.

Locally some users can connect but others cannot? Sounds like a permissions problem. Ensure the users are members of the Local Administrators Group. You may be missing the WSUS Administrators LOCAL group. If you are, just create it with no members.

You have a health issue with SSL.

Ensure your Root Cert (or Self-Signed cert) is trusted by your computers, including the WSUS server itself.

Depending on how much of a problem this is to fix, you may just want to remove and reinstall WSUS

If you choose to go that route, I'd also recommend using my guide to set it up (even if you choose not to, I'd recommend reading my guide)
