Visual Studio 2022 Hard-Freezes Windows

A few weeks ago, my D: drive (which had Visual Studio 2022 Community installed on it) failed. I replaced the hard drive, reinstalled VS 2022, but Visual Studio 2022 has been unusable.

Whenever I attempt to compile anything, Windows will fully freeze and I am forced to shut off my computer.

I ended up using Windows' [Reset This PC] option to go back to factory defaults.

Visual Studio 2022 still freezes Windows any time it is used.

Maybe there are some other hardware problems.

Did you try to press <Ctrl+Alt+Delete> to access the Task Manager and close Visual Studio?

Yes. Windows as a whole is completely frozen, and I am forced to fully restart.

Edit: Safe mode also does not fix anything in this instance. I am still able to fully use Code and 2019. This is exclusively a VS 2022 problem.

Safemode also does not change anything. The full freeze still occurs. This only occurs with Visual Studio 2022. It does not happen with Code or 2019.

Hello, are you using the latest version of VS2022? Do you have anti-virus software?

You can try to repair your VS2022 via Visual Studio Installer > More > Repair.

I am using the latest version of VS 2022, yes. I am only using Windows Defender for anti-virus.

I have repaired VS 2022. I have uninstalled and fully reinstalled VS 2022. I've also used the "InstallCleanup" tool to completely uninstall VS 2022 and all features with it.

Please open your registry editor and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Setup

Please modify the value data of SharedInstallationPath to the new drive (Before editing, please back-up the data).

Then, check that your VS2022 is working properly.
