I am setting up a Virtual Network, but upon configuring Point-to-Site it hangs and is not allowing me to add in the certification. I pressed save without adding the certificates. It has been stuck in this updating / saving state for 40 minutes now andUser's image

    Hello Jordan.

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for reaching out & I hope you are doing well.

I understand that you are facing issues with Virtual Network Gateway Creation as it is taking longer time. Kindly note a Virtual Network Gateway could take anything between 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on multiple factors like size of the gateway and region where gateway is getting created. But if it is taking more than that kindly check the below points -

    • One reason could be that there is a platform configuration issue affecting the Virtual Network Gateway. You can check the provisioning state of the gateway to see if it is still in progress by going to the properties button on the Virtual network Gateway page on Azure Portal.
    • If it is, you can wait for it to complete. If it is not, you can try resetting the gateway with from the reset button on the Virtual network Gateway page on Azure Portal or using the below powershell command.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/vpn-gateway/reset-gateway#ps

    • Kindly advise if above points did not help you, in that case a support ticket with Azure support need to be opened for further investigation.

I have the same problem. MS seem to be trying to make our lives hard lately. I'd tell you my Azure Site Recovery story but it's just way too depressing! And now we have to create a Basic SKU VPN Gateway via code. My my, what would mother say if she were here?

It has been removed from the GUI, obviously connected to two things:

    • Basic SKU of public IP addresses being deprecated (cha ching!).
    • The board wanting more profit.

And now I'm stuck with attempting to set up a simple service wasting hours of my life, waiting for "Updating" to turn into "Failed" with no indication of why. I bet if I use the GUI with the higher SKU it will work fine. But for a company that has 30 users, uuum $2,400/year for a VPN on the lowest SKU? ...as opposed to $480/year under the basic SKU. Who is making these awful decisions? I think I'm over selling it now - instead I will train up for the wave of companies that are getting sick of the cloud and bring them all back on premises to an environment that now more than ever has far more predictable and stable costs. The cloud has lost it's shine I'm afraid.
