In New MS Lists, How to get a Description to Display on Hover When In 'Grid View'

@Yanli Jiang - MSFT posted an excellent solution to a very similar question here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/948890/hover-box-to-display-discription-on-modern-sharepo?comment=answer-954932&page=1#comment-1331204 . It works great in SharePoint and also works in MS Lists (desktop or browser), but only in conventional/old list display mode.

In 'grid view' (where one can enter directly into the fields as displayed) the hover doesn't show.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to show in both modalities?

    Hi @Gutelius, Patrick

Thanks for letting us know your user experience. According to your case description, I do understand how frustrated you are now.

When I received the case, I searched a lot of documents did a lot of researches. And I feel regretful to inform you that it turns out to be a by-design one.

When using "Edit in Grid View" mode in SharePoint, column formatting might not be applied to the same range as in regular list view. Grid view provides a more structured and editable interface, some customization options (including hover cards) may not be available in this mode.

And I noticed that some end users have also proposed the same request, it is highly recommended that you can vote this ticket. Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future. Thanks for your understanding.

If you have experience in developing SPFX extensions, then you can use the spfx extension to achieve this functionality.
