Incremental Windows Server Backup

Question

I tanked a full windows server backup yesterday on external SSD by using windows server backup feathers in windows server 2012 R2 .

Today I want to take an incremental backup on the full backup that I tanked yesterday by changed the Configure Performance Settings and choose Incremental

backup after I started the backup it is tanked a full windows server backup not incremental ,why is that happened ?

I am sure the backup target location is the same as the one I used for the full backup yesterday.

After taking a full backup today, I tried an incremental backup again using the same settings it is working .

Please advice .

Hi

There are several reasons which may cause the backup to be full instead of incremental:

1. Backup on the target is deleted/not present.
2. Source volume snapshot is deleted, from which the last backup was taken.
3. 14 incremental backups have occurred since the last full backup
4. More than 14 days have passed since the last full backup
