Can I delete a replicated hyper-v VM and re-enable repication?

I have two servers on Premise, one is used as replica server to replicate a VM. The Hyper-V server was restarted and the replication got broken. Now When I try to enable replication, I get the message that "Hyper-V failed to enable replication. Hyper-v is not in a state to accept replication on the replica server for virtual machine "skkkk"". I have tried all solutions offered in the internet but failed to solve the problem.

So is it possible to "remove replication" from the replica server and the enable replication again ?

    Hello there,

You can delete records only about replicas that are in the Ready state. Do not delete replica files from the destination storage manually, use the Delete from Disk option instead. If you delete replica files manually, subsequent replication sessions will fail.

es, you can delete a replicated Hyper-V virtual machine (VM) and then re-enable replication. However, there are some important considerations and steps to follow to ensure a smooth process:

    Before you begin:

Make sure you have a backup of the VM and its data before you proceed.

Ensure that you have a replication relationship established between the primary and replica Hyper-V hosts.

If the VM is actively in use, plan a maintenance window to avoid disruptions.

Hope this resolves your Query !!

    Hi,

Of course you can delete the replicated VM and re-enable repication, but this won't necessarily solve your problem. It’s better to open Event Viewer and check for errors in the Hyper-V-VMMS log located under "Applications and Services Logs \ Microsoft \ Windows" at first.

    Best Regards,

    Hey,

You should verify that you are using valid account on both servers to re-enable Hyper-V replica. You should check that you can connect to your replica server from main one. Might be helpful with configuration:

In addition, you can configure 2-node cluster with your 2 servers using StarWind VSAN. It can be used to create replicated storage for VMs to make them Highly Available in Failover Cluster.
