Can someone please help, I installed SSMS and when opening the application I get this error - I have uninstalled and reinstalled, but still the error appears:

Installation errors with SSMS are unfortunately something we see every once a while here. SSMS is a very complex installation, and imperfections in your system can cause it to fail.
There is still some hope, though. You seem to have installed a quite old version of SSMS. I would suggest that you download the most recent version and try that.
