VS2022 17.7.0 broken when using Custom C++ project templates

There are several custom C++ project templates that I have used for quite a while with VS2019 and VS2022 through 17.6.5. However, version 17.7.0 chokes when attempting to create a project using the templates and issues an uninformative error message - “One of the identified items is in an invalid format”.

But I don’t have the error in version 17.7.0 when using the project template. Could you share me a simple project to reproduce it?
You can try to repair your VS2022 or roll back to the previous version 17.6.5 to test again.

2023-08-15T07:19:09.98+00:00 Thank you for your offer of assistance. It is interesting that of the three templates pictured in the first image that I posted two of them failed but one of them was handled successfully. I forwarded the templates for which 17.7.0 issued the errors to Microsoft when I opened the issue.

2023-08-17T13:55:37.0666667+00:00 Another user commented on the issue at the DC site that using ReplaceParameters="true" for icon files in a custom project template is related to the VS2022 17.7.0 failure to create a project. That user commented with respect to a .csproj project template. I confirmed that this also caused the VS2022 error for the custom C++ project templates that I use. It looks like a regression to me.
