How can I reset HoloLens Gen1?

Here is my situation:

  • We haven't used the Hololens in a while, and we forgot the password
  • We tried to Request a new PIN using [http://127.0.0.1:10080/devicepair.htm], but it fails with "Failed to start Pairing", perhaps because the Developer Mode was never activated on the device
  • The only choice we are left with, is to reset the device using Windows Device Recovery tool, which is rather fine, because we do not want to have any apps or data which we need to persist. A factory reset would be fine.
  • But, seems that the Windows Device Recovery Tool is no longer available: windows-device-recovery-tool-faq
  • It simply points to repairavoidance Storage Account which no longer has PublicAccess enabled. I was able to find the installer somewhere on the interwebs, but when we run the installer, it looks for other MSI files to download from the same storage account with an error:

  • At this point, I am stuck with a bricked Hololens and no way to recover or factory restore it, and Microsoft pulled the plug on Recovery Tool
  • Does anyone know how to get this recovery tool to work, or any other suggestions on how to go forward with this?
