I noticed our Core server (2012 R2) had not done updates like I had asked it to. It hasn't updated for months. Running thru the very poor Microsoft documentation and general iNet searches resulted in a possible solution that had been released (08/15/2023). I had followed the poor instructions and scheduled a reboot of said server. The next day, checked to see if the systems came up. It looked ok until I tried to Log in (Via RDP). That failed with only the above error to describe the issue.

Now, the security updates applied, only 1/2 of them actually applied. The others reported. (Not appropriate for your system)

This system is NOT onsite, so I am stuck trying to fix it via PSEXEC. Local logins fail, RDP Fails, sometimes WMI (Computer management) fails connections.

I have run SFC /scannow which tells me there is stuff It found, but cannot fix.

I then ran DISM (Check, fix, repair) which all report no issues detected.

Now this is the THIRD time I have asked this question on learn.microsoft.com. It usually just tells me "Error occurred" posting the question. Quite a waste of valuable time.

It would be most helpful if Microsoft would provide good support for their products. Having these issues makes for a very bad experience using Microsoft products. Just note that please.

Anyway, please let me know of any suggestions to try. This is a Critical Server.

You can also try a repair install by running setup.exe from the root of install media, but time may be better spent standing up a new one, patch fully, migrate roles over and move on.
