Unable to install SQL Server (setup.exe) Exit code (Decimal): -2068119551

Hi, I am trying to install this SQL Server 2022 but it keep showing error like the image below. Few days ago I installed it once, then I decided to uninstall everything including all the apps such as Visual and C++. I also made sure that there were not any remaining files of it before downloading SQL Server 2022 and installing it.
The full path on the screen: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\160\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20230822_013109

Please help me out.

Hi Viorel, I just begin to download this for practice, thus I don't have any experience to analyze the log files, could you clarify what you mean there?

Maybe the folder, which is displayed on the screen, contains some text files with additional details about the issue.

But it seems that the issue is already solved.

I don't know why you accepted Rahul's answer. It seems that he jumped the gun and assume that you were running into a known issue. However, you don't seem to come that far.

In the folder that is in the error message in your screenshot, there are lots of log files. The ones we are most interested in are summary.txt and details.txt. Feel free to attach them here.

You should accept answers that resolves your problem. So I would post this as an Answer and say "do this, this fixes your problem", and you would follow my advice and indeed installation would now succeed, you would accept my Answer.

Alas, I don't know the fix. This is error message:

File 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\160\Shared\sqlmgmprovider.mof' not found!

And then things go downhill from there. You are not the first to run into this issue, but I've never been able to understand why it happens or how to deal with it.

Did you run any previous installation attempts before you came to this point?

It is possible that if you do a cleanup of the registry that things work out, but I don't have the steps for this around. Maybe the Microsoft people who monitor this forum will have these handy. They are located in China, I believe, and will be online in a few hours.

When encountering such error during SQL Server installation, it is important to check the error log to obtain the specific and informative error message.

To identify the cause of the issue, you can refer to the SQL Server error log located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL15.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\ERRORLOG (assuming a default installation). This log file contains important details about the startup process and any errors encountered during installation.

In the file where you found the summary file, there is a file detail.txt, which is likely to give information about the error. Feel free to attach it here.

Hi Rahul, thank you for responding, it seems to me that the path does not link to any folder in my C:/ . However, I found /MSSQL16.SQLEXPRESS/MSSQL/ but I don't see any file named /ERRORLOG/ as I mentioned. Please note that I install SQL Server 2022 by default path (did not browse anywhere. Hope to hear from you soon.
