I cannot sign in to microsoft authenticator on a new iphone

I have a business account (******@watsonroots.net) which I want to connect to microsoft authenticator. Every time I try to add it, it asks me to verify a code on authenticator ... but as I dont have it set up, it just goes round in circles. This used to work before I got a new iphone - so I suspect its still linked to my old phone

2023-08-30T06:37:36.35+00:00 I re-installed authenticator as per support article, and tried to set up for first time as suggested .... but it then asked me to verify via authenticator !! so going around in circles again.
