Links posted in Teams chat only redirecting to Microsoft.com

Question

a few details about this problem:

• this only occurs when the default browser is set to Internet explorer AND all traffic sent to IE is sent to Edge
• any other browser as default browser does not give this problem. but for our org, we need it to function like this
• It happens for any link, HTTP and HTTPS.

Problem: Sending any link to a collegue trough teams is not a problem. it will show as the correct link. once clicked, Edge will open to Microsoft.com. When copied and pasted to the adress-bar it will go to the correct page as well. so it is only when clicked directly. When opened from Teams(webapp) it also behaves normally.

How can i get the links to work normally in this one specific case?

Are hyperlinks in Teams unable to open when you set IE as the default browser?

This can happen for one or more of the following reasons:

• The setting where you choose what web browser that you want to use is corrupted. This can cause Windows to misinterpret which browser is set as the default browser on your computer.
• After software was installed, settings were changed, which can cause links to webpages to work incorrectly.
• A previously installed browser or add-in might be interfering with other software on your computer.
• Registry keys were changed or became corrupted.
