Hello Everyone,

I am taking Part of an Inter-Forest Domain Migration. Domain A must be integrated in domain B, for that I need help and some gaidlines from someone how had past experinces with this subject. I have two challenges:

  1. I need to migrate the profile and files that a User has from Domain A into Domain B (In domain B We created a user with the same name as in Domain A for each user). A\smith has can login as b\smith in the second domain.
  2. I need to join the Windows Clients to the new Domain remotly. the Clients are in a different part of the country. It would not be cool to drive all the way there to do a domain join for the machines. The Clients are already joined to domain A.

I have thought about using ADMT and USMT Tools but I don't have the experince with them.

ADMT is not Supported by Microsoft anymore does anyone still uses it?

And I am not sure if I can use USMT in this scenario.

Thank you in advance

    Hi, Questions_Man
    This is Chaboon.

I think it's appropriate to use ADMT given what you want to do. USMT is migrate profile, but part of a profile data, not all of profile data.

I have evaluated ADMT at August 2022.

    • Source: Windows Server 2019 Domain Controller
    • Target: Windows Server 2022 Domain Controller
    • Client : Windows 8.1 / Windows 10 / Windows 11

    As a Result:

    • Users (with own password) and Security Groups is migrated.
    • Clients is migrated.
    • User profiles is migrated with some problems.
do not migrated: UWP Store Programs / credential data with DPAPI (Certificate , Credetial Managers's data , etc)

If you use ADMT, you must export certificates and credential data before your migrate.

You must first read and understand the following material in detail.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19188

And I think I recommend that you contact Microsoft support in your country once.

For example, at Microsoft Support in Japan, you may be able to receive consultation, albeit on a limited basis.
