AD trust operation running only on azure with an AD running locally and on azure

We currently use two different domains in our company: abc.com and xyz.com.

abc.com works only through Azure AD, while xyz.com works with Azure AD + Local AD synchronization. We are trying to establish a trust relationship between these two domains, but we are facing some problems and we need your help.

1-The abc.com accounts are showing as "External user" on Teams and therefore no file sharing or collaboration can be done. We also tried adding them as "Guest" in Teams, but this did not solve the issues. In particular, we actively use the "Chat" section and not being able to share files there is a big problem.

2-The To-Do app has synchronization issues when a list opened by xyz.com is invited to an account on abc.com. This is a huge barrier to collaboration and task management.

We followed the steps in Microsoft's B2B Collaboration article, but the problems still persist.

Regarding the "External user" status on Teams, this may be due to the fact that the abc.com accounts are not part of the same Azure AD tenant as the xyz.com accounts. To resolve this, you may need to invite the abc.com users to the xyz.com Azure AD tenant as guests, rather than trying to add them as guests within Teams directly. This should give them the necessary permissions to collaborate and share files.

As for the To-Do app synchronization issues, this may be related to the fact that the two domains have different synchronization methods. You may need to ensure that both domains are using the same synchronization method in order to avoid conflicts.

Thank you for your response and your efforts to address the issues we've been experiencing with our domain trust relationship.

Regarding the "External user" status in Teams, it appears that even though we followed the recommended steps and Microsoft's documentation, we are still facing difficulties in sending attachments or collaborating effectively with abc.com domain users. Despite sending invitations, we continue to see two different user statuses - one as a guest and the other as external. This has led to communication complexities.

As for the To-Do application synchronization, it seems that we've come across an article (https://m365admin.handsontek.net/your-to-do-users-will-no-longer-be-able-to-join-shared-lists-from-consumer-accounts/) indicating that it may no longer be possible for To-Do users to join shared lists from consumer accounts.

We appreciate your assistance and would welcome any additional insights or alternative solutions you may have regarding these challenges.

I understand your concern. It sounds like you are experiencing issues with the "External user" status in Teams and collaborating with users from the abc.com domain

First, make sure that the guest users have accepted the invitation and have been added to the appropriate Teams or channels. If they have not accepted the invitation, they will not be able to collaborate effectively. Second, check the Teams settings to ensure that external sharing is enabled and that the appropriate permissions have been granted to the guest users. Third, try clearing the cache and cookies in your web browser, as this can sometimes resolve issues with external sharing.
