Visual Studio - "pending add" what is it and why can I no longer add images to my solution

Question

So I am adding an ImageButton no problem. I add an image using add existing file. It does not show ???????

Now when I look at Solution Explorer the image says Pending Add. I have now spent an hour looking for help and all I see is problems with this going back to 2017. But no where how to get rid of this and allow me to add the image.

Once again VS is showing me that it is not really setup to help the developer. What I am trying to do should take about a minute at most and as it stands if could be decades it seems.

SO POOR!!!!
