Hi all,

We are currently moving everything we can to the cloud. We have no need for big internal network infrastructure because we don't have any IIS running in our domain. All of our programs and features will be moved to cloud, provided by our vendors through internet.

We already have Microsoft 365 tenants using Exchange, Sharepoints and all various Microsoft 365 products.

We are currently running hybrid Exchange environment. We have moved all of our on-premises distribution lists to the cloud and groups to the cloud as well. We have no need for security policy as we want to decommission our on-premises Active Directory server, Azure Active Directory server which is currently linked to Hybrid Exchange environment.

We want to go about proper way, that it will not cause any harm in future. We are planning to use Microsoft Office 365 Hybrid Configuration Wizard to disconnect our on-premises Exchange environment as well as Azure Active Directory.

Upon doing so, Will it be fine to shut down all the servers including Active Directory? Or is that bit more step, in regards to the cloud, that we need to do.

Yes, you can safely shut down all of your servers after utilizing the Microsoft Office 365 Hybrid Configuration Wizard to disconnect your on-premises Exchange infrastructure from Azure AD. This includes Active Directory.

All of your users and data's storage will be in the cloud when you disconnect your on-premises infrastructure from it. To administer your users or data, no on-premises servers are required.

Before you shut down your servers, you should do the following actions:

    • Ensure that you have a backup of every piece of data you have.
    • Ensure that every single one of your users has switched to the cloud.
    • Verify that all of your on-premises DNS records have been deleted.
    • Verify that your MX records have been changed to point to the cloud.

You can securely shut down your servers once you've completed the tasks above
