Changing the license type on an Azure VM with SSRS Installed

We have an Azure VM installed with SQL Reporting services. When we configured SSRS on the VM we didn’t select the option to use the Hybrid License model for SQL.

We've used the SSRS 2022 image from market place to create the VM.

We do have SQL with software assurance licenses available - and we want to change the license model for SSRS on the VM to use the Hybrid model.

To change the License model (looking at the documentation) - we need to install SQL Iaas Agent.

When installing the SQL Iaas Agent, we get an error:

Creating SQL Virtual Machine resource for Power BI VM images is not supported -

which is an issue listed in this link.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-sql/virtual-machines/windows/sql-agent-extension-troubleshoot-known-issues?view=azuresql

Without the SQL Iaas Agent - how can I change the license model for SSRS on the Azure VM?

    Hi @Wandrag Kruger

I'm in charge of SSRS and don't know much about Azure VM.

I haven't searched for a way to change the license model other than SQL IaaS Agent. I searched some blogs and most of them are about deploying SSRS after enabling SQL IaaS extension. You can refer to these links:

    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/sql-server-blog/azure-sql-vm-automatic-registration-and-reporting-services/ba-p/1783947

    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/sql-server-blog/rehost-your-sql-server-to-azure-virtual-machines-for/ba-p/1698452

This link also provides information about the modernization of SSRS, which you can also use as a reference: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-sql-blog/modernizing-ssrs-and-a-step-by-step-guide-to-bringing/ba-p/2483050.

    Best regards,

    Aniya
